Wrinkle reduction consultation

A consultation with a registered nurse about options for the appearance of facial lines, at our Mermaid Waters clinic.

What the consultation covers

  • An assessment of your facial anatomy and movement patterns, and your medical history.
  • What options exist, what each involves, and what each cannot achieve.
  • Risks, side effects and realistic recovery information, in writing.
  • Whether a procedure is appropriate for you — sometimes it is not.
  • A written treatment plan including costs, before anything is booked.

Some options involve prescription medicines. Whether a prescription medicine is suitable
for you can only be determined at a consultation, after the risks, contraindications and
alternatives have been discussed. For that reason we do not describe or price those
medicines on this website.

Areas commonly discussed

  • Forehead lines
  • Lines at the outer corners of the eyes
  • Lines between the eyebrows
  • The upper lip and perioral area
  • Dimpling and creasing of the chin
  • Jaw and masseter region

Who this consultation is for

People aged 18 and over who want to discuss the appearance of facial lines. Attending a consultation does not
mean a procedure will be recommended. Facial lines are a normal part of ageing and are not a condition. Some people are not suitable candidates, and some are better served by other approaches, which we will discuss with you.

Risks, recovery and what to expect

This is a considered decision

Cosmetic injection procedures are invasive and carry risk. They are not suitable for everyone, and suitability is assessed at consultation.

Common effects

  • Small, localised swelling or bumps at injection sites, usually settling within the first few hours after treatment
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness

Less common and serious risks

  • Infection
  • Asymmetry or an unintended effect on nearby muscles
  • Headache
  • Allergic reaction

Recovery

Most people return to normal activity the same day, with a few exceptions for the first several hours: avoid strenuous exercise, avoid rubbing the treated area, and limit alcohol.

Pain

Injections are brief. Pain thresholds differ; ice packs and numbing cream are available. Some people find injections uncomfortable.

Outcomes and how long they last

Where a procedure is undertaken, any effect is temporary and reduces over time. Individual responses vary. Repeat procedures are required to sustain an effect, and the interval differs between people.

Individual responses and results vary. The outcome experienced by one
person does not necessarily reflect what another person will experience. Some people see
little or no change. We cannot and do not guarantee an outcome.

Book a consultation

Every procedure begins with a consultation at our Mermaid Waters clinic, where we
assess whether it is appropriate for you, explain the risks and recovery, and give
you a written treatment plan including costs. Attending a consultation does not mean
a procedure will be recommended — sometimes we advise against one, and cosmetic
procedures are not the only way to address concerns about appearance.
