for you can only be determined at a consultation, after the risks, contraindications and
alternatives have been discussed. For that reason we do not describe or price those

Under the chin (submental)

Who this consultation is for

People aged 18 and over who want to discuss the appearance of fullness under the chin. Attending a consultation does not
mean a procedure will be recommended. Fat distribution under the chin is influenced by genetics, weight and ageing, and varies normally between people. A procedure is not always the right answer, and we will say so if we think it is not.

Risks, recovery and what to expect

This is a considered decision

This is an invasive procedure and it carries risk. It is not suitable for everyone. Injection lipolysis is expressly listed by Ahpra as a higher-risk non-surgical cosmetic procedure.

Common effects

Swelling, which can be pronounced and last several days to a week
Tenderness and firmness in the treated area
Bruising
Numbness

Less common and serious risks

Infection
Nerve injury causing an uneven smile, which is usually temporary
Difficulty swallowing
Skin ulceration at the injection site

Recovery

Plan for visible swelling. Expect to need time away from social commitments after each appointment.

Pain

Numbing cream is applied beforehand. Pain thresholds differ between people; some people find this procedure uncomfortable, and the treated area is commonly tender afterwards.

Outcomes and how long they last

A course of 2–4 appointments is usually needed, and final change is generally assessed at about 12 weeks. Where fat cells in the treated area are reduced, that reduction can be lasting; however the appearance of the area can still change with weight gain, ageing and skin laxity, so a permanent result is not guaranteed. Individual responses vary considerably and some people see limited change.

Individual responses and results vary. The outcome experienced by one
person does not necessarily reflect what another person will experience. Some people see
little or no change. We cannot and do not guarantee an outcome.
